Diabetic Foot Care: A Daily Checklist to Prevent Complications
If you're managing diabetes, your feet need a little extra love every single day. It doesn't have to be complicated, just consistent. Here's what we recommend to our patients.
Why Your Feet Need Extra Attention
Diabetes can make it harder to feel small cuts or sores, and it can slow down how quickly they heal. That's why a quick daily check can make such a big difference.
Your Daily Checklist
· Look over both feet, top and bottom, including between the toes
· Wash your feet and dry them completely
· Moisturize (but not between the toes)
· Trim your nails straight across
· Check inside your shoes before you put them on
· Skip going barefoot, even at home
When Should I Come In?
If you find a cut, blister, or red spot that isn't clearly healing after a day or two, it's time to have it looked at rather than waiting to see. We also recommend a diabetic foot exam at least once a year to catch anything brewing early.
If it's been a while since your last diabetic foot check, schedule an appointment with our team today.
